Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Once ordered, how long will my system take to reach me?
A: Most Cranesmart systems reach the customer within 24 - 72 hours of ordering depending on the type of system ordered, method of delivery, and location. LMI systems typically reach the customer within 7-10 working days of ordering.
Q: How will my system be shipped?
A: Normally orders are shipped from our factory via Federal Express, prepaid, allowing us to save our customers approximately 20% in shipping costs. Of course you may request shipping on your carrier if you wish.

System Operation:

Q: How accurate are Cranesmart Load Cells and Angle Indicators?
A: Cranesmart Systems are accurate within +/- 1%.
Q: What is the operating range of a Cranesmart System?
A: The standard operating range is 600 feet.
Q: Can numerous Cranesmart Systems operate in close proximity to each other?
A: Yes. Much in the same way as a cellular phone operates, there is no concern for interference between systems because each system that leaves our factory has its own digital ID code and four levels of error detection encoding.
Q: Is it possible to add additional components to your existing Cranesmart system?
A: Yes. The Cranesmart System will expand to include up to three load cells, three A2B units, and two angle transducers – all in the same panel. Just call us with your existing systems serial number.
Q: Will the Cranesmart System meet the safety regulations on my job site?
A: Cranesmart Systems meet or exceed all relevant regulations set forth by North American regulatory bodies; this includes ANSI, API, U.S. Navy, SAE, DNV, U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, ASME, FCC, U.S. Coast Guard, OSHA, ABS, CALOSHA, UL, CSA, International Makers of Explosives, The City of New York. For more information, visit our certifications page.
Q: What type of warranty comes with a Cranesmart System?
A: Each system comes with a standard two-year warranty that covers any repair or replacement costs for systems defective in material or workmanship. An additional five-year warranty is also available for purchase on any Cranesmart System. Call us and ask!
Q: What voltage is required for the display panel?
A: To power up your panel, you will require a +12 - 28 VDC (nominal) power supply. Power converters are available from us for power outputs other than 12 - 28 VDC (eg. 110 VAC).
Q: What is the color coding on my power cable?
A: The standard power cable is color coded as follows:
Red = +12V DC
Black = Ground
White = Alarm output for shutoffs (factory set to be +12V DC during system operation)
Purple = RS485 connection - Used for internal system communication only
Blue = RS485 connection - Used for internal system communication only

Batteries:

Q: How long do batteries in the transmitters last?
A: The batteries in each transmitter component normally last 5+ years during constant use.
Q: Can I use regular "D" or "AA" (1.5V) batteries in the transmitter components?
A: No. Cranesmart Systems use United States military spec. lithium-ion 3.6V batteries.
Q: Can I replace the batteries myself?
A: Indeed! A battery installation kit may be ordered from our service department with one telephone call. Have your system serial number handy when you call. All Cranesmart batteries are easier to replace then the ones in a child's toy!

Service:

Q: What do I do if my system requires repair or service?
A: When you have a malfunction or have a damaged system, contact our service department toll free at 1-888-562-3222. Technicians are available to assist you with complete technical support from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. MST.
Q: Is it possible to send in a component of my system for service rather than the entire unit?
A: Yes.
Q: Do I have to send load cells to the service department if they require calibration?
A: No. Cranesmart load cells are self calibrating. You may also use known weights to calibrate your load cells if you wish. Your manual contains instructions on how to re-calibrate your load cells. Or, our service department can help you to re-calibrate your system with a simple telephone call.
Q: Who do I contact if I require replacement parts?
A: Call Cranesmart's Service Department. Parts ship same day if ordered before 1:30 p.m.
Q: How do I determine the single line pull rating of my load cell?
A: The load cell's single line pull rating is listed on the serial number tag. Please note that our safety rating on our load cells is an industry leading 7:1.
Q: Where is my Serial Number located?
A: Each component of your system has a silver label with its serial number printed on it. When installing two or more Cranesmart systems, please ensure that all Cranesmart components on a crane have the same serial number.
Q: I lost my manual, where can I get a replacement?
A: Under the service tab, located on the navigation menu above, highlight manuals and click on the appropriate model.
Q: Will the Cranesmart components work with my older model 360, 365, 737, 777, 939, or 959 systems?
A: No, the older systems are not compatible with the Cranesmart components
Q: Why won't my Cranemart panel turn on even though I have it wired to a good voltage source?
A: The Cranesmart panel requires at least 10.5VDC to power on (12VDC and above is recommended). Please check the input voltage with a multimeter to make sure you have sufficient voltage.
Q: Why won't the pin on my A2B transmitter move in/out of the enclosure?
A: The A2B pin is not supposed to retract into enclosure as it is not a spring loaded type mechanism.
Q: The backlight on the my Cranesmart display is dim/dead, can I change it myself?
A: No, if the backlight is dim/dead you will need to send your display panel in for repair or call the Service Department to arrange a replacement.
